The bright fabrics stand out against the light calico background and make this pattern pop.  I used simple embroidery stitches on this one, but you can always applique using your sewing machine instead.The finished mug mat or placemat measures 9″ x 12″, this little mat is a great way to experiment with applique and quilting techniques on a smaller scale.
